{Fun Finds} For the new year…

I feel a like I’m jumping into the new year in slow motion. I have so many ideas swimming around in my brain but I need some time to sit & ponder a bit before I start in on anything new. Sometimes just letting my brain ebb & flow between creative thoughts is what I need. One of the things that I like doing to let me brain wander is create an Etsy Treasury. This time I started with these three cool items & went from there.

I got Sayer a smaller version of this Peg & Awl chalkboard & it’s fantastic. With kiddo’s love of pencils & drawing, I couldn’t help but be drawn to these adorable & cozy scarfs from Sara Carr. I also really love these prints from Blanca Gomez & can easily envision them on our wall.

You can view this whole collection of loveliness live here.

Happy Monday!

{Fun} a new year…

When I saw these recycled letterpress paper chain kits by Something’s Hiding In Here, I was immediately smitten with the packaging & the idea. It inspired me to make a “New Year” treasury of images, textures, & colors that I’m drawn to in 2012. Happy Chinese New Year – bring on the dragon!

{Happy New Year} Bye Bye Rabbit…

The year of the rabbit was good… a blur really. But I’m ready for the dragon- bring on 2012! Every year I get quiet, contemplative, a little nostalgic, & ooze with extra gratitude the last week of December. This year was no different except for that I was hit with an overwhelming sense of burnout. More than usual – so I slowed down & enjoyed some time off with my little family. It felt good…

My normal routine on New Year’s Eve is trying to rearrange the whole house- room by room. I can’t tell you how many New Year Eve’s Chris & I got ourselves wedged in between furniture trying to make our spaces “bigger” while trying to effectively achieve high levels of feng shui. Not today. Although we fiddled with Sayer’s room a bit – it was nothing like the past years of my needing to change everything. I feel a little more content these days. I think due in large part to connecting with so many of you over the year. It really fills me up. So, I thank you – for stopping by here now & then & leaving comments. I appreciate it beyond words. I’m raising my glass (that’s now empty) & wishing everyone a very happy new year! CHEERS! In Sayer style, I’m going to groove my way into 2012, won’t you join me?

{Music Monday} 2011

Music makes our family go ’round. That’s how we all ushered in 2011 while bidding farewell to 2010. On this Music Monday I’m keeping it short & sweet. I’m still in a little holiday recovery mode & our whole family is slowly catching up on sleep around here. So I thought I would share a little Science of Sleep…

I remember going completely bonkers over this movie the first time I saw it. Visually, it completely made me happy. I haven’t seen it in a long time & think we should revisit it soon. I think we would see it in a whole new light. I’ve always liked this Lou Reed song as well.

In the meantime, I’m going to unplug & continue to recharge my batteries….Happy Music Monday in 2011!   {image via Chris Theiss}

Happy New Year!

If book titles could speak, this stack would sum up 2010 quite nicely. Every year at this time I feel quiet, reflective, and somewhat at a loss for words. I ended 2010  with a satisfied feeling- like I gave it everything I’ve had. I recently realized, that it wasn’t until I started klt:works that I really began to understand that every year holds amazing & surprising events that could never be predicted -but always treasured. So I go into 2011 knowing that it’s going to be just as incredible as this year, but having no idea how or why…

Having Sayer in our lives helps remind me how helpful it is to view life through his eyes. Everything is challenging, rewarding,  magical, & fun. The feelings of pure awe, fascination, & gratitude have been constant for me this year. So before I settle down to a nice, relaxing evening with my 2 favorite guys, I want to say thank you to everyone that has made 2010 so memorable.

Something on my resolution list last year, was that I wanted to start a blog. However, I really couldn’t anticipate what an impact it would have on my life. I have met some truly wonderful friends though klt:sketchbook and for that I am both touched & grateful. So, I am raising my glass to you-  happy new year, cheers, & see you in 2011!
