{Real Life} Winter Water Factory…

This summer I won a contest which is not something that happens very often- so it was pretty exciting. But it what made it even more cool, is that I won a gift card from the Winter Water Factory! Now I have to say, I’ve been drooling over their prints for a long time & had a few things picked out in my mind for Sayer. However, being that Sayer is an individual with his own thoughts, I waited to use my gift card with him- for his school shopping. So, a few weeks before Sayer’s pre-school started, the two of us cruised through the WWF site together & we carefully selected three items- discussing each one.

We thought we’d take a few snapshots of what we chose. We found that these tees really encouraged play & exploration…

We both liked the high seas & the tool box tees a lot. Sayer has gone boating with his grandparents since he was born so that was an easy choice. The tool box tee is a size bigger (we planned ahead) & caught Sayer’s eye because he & Chris have been building a club house in our back yard over the last few months. He really had to have this one because the name “Sayer” means wood-worker  (which is one of the reasons why we chose the name- the other is Chris’ best friend, Dick Sayer). But, can you guess what Sayer’s absolute favorite WWF tee is?

Yep, that would be the firetruck tee. He really wanted both firetruck tees – there’s one with a red background too, but I only bought one (aren’t I unreasonable?). I think the biggest compliment for a designer who makes things for children is when a child insists on wearing their designs on the first day of school. Sayer started pre-school on Thursday & he told me that he HAD to wear his firetruck tee. He wore it with such pride & told me that he was going to wear it everyday that he went to school. I have to say, it’s the coolest firetruck tee that I’ve ever seen & he rocked it. Winter Water Factory is definitely tops in our book. And as an extra bonus, the tees go nicely with the klt:cardi, don’t ya think? Thanks WWF!!

{Real Life} thinking & working…

A few weeks back we got some news (of the job nature) that sort of shifted things for us all a bit. Since then, I’ve been sort of hunkered down thinking, spinning, processing, & jumping in on some new projects. I finally feel like I’m making some progress- but still have tons of new things I’m working on for klt:works as well. Seriously, there isn’t enough time in the day it seems. Do you know the feeling? I’ll share more soon. Just a bit distracted lately. Nothing like a some finger painting with this little guy to help chill me out.  Hope you are having a great week.

{Real Life} just being still…

The clouds rolled in today after two days of sunshine. It’s time to be still and regroup…  Hope you are all having a relaxing weekend!

{Real Life} Big Boy Room Part II

The transition from Sayer’s nursery to his big boy room is ongoing in our house. We’ve been tackling projects one at a time. But, I think we are finished for a little while. He finally has the space & appropriate storage solutions conducive for tons of play. The great thing, is that we didn’t really need to change things up much. We also made or found (in other rooms of our house & thrift shops) most of what we needed. I love watching my little whirlwind play so I decided to take some photos of him enjoying his space, while giving you a tour.

This bookshelf house is one of my favorite things in his room. It was originally my old doll house that my dad made me. He also has the old doll bed that my dad made me too. Chris renovated it before Sayer was born to make it into a changing table/bookshelf. Now it’s still a storage space, but also serves as an extension fire house, emergency station, & deluxe garage. Click here for the before & after post.

I love the fact that Sayer still has his klt:mobiles in his room & that he still enjoys them. His bed is the conversion of his crib which I have to say is so great! The book corner is another favorite part of his room. He can look at his books from his bed too- which I think is nice. Chris made the book ledges & the shelf/toy storage is from ikea. The Eames chair isn’t always in his room- it really floats from room to room. This week it’s in the living room.

The vintage toys & vintage Marimekko quilt sort of took the palette of his room from, orange, green, & turquoise, to more of a rainbow of colors. It’s a happy room that I enjoy hanging out in. It also gets beautiful light through the windows. In my opinion, it’s the best room in the house for sure. I’m curious to see how this room evolves over the years. In the meantime, I’m content  just watching Sayer enjoy his space. What’s your favorite colors for a toddler’s room?

{Real Life} icky…

Things are running at a little slower pace around here. Sayer isn’t feeling too hot- he’s not quite his perky self. While I was  thinking that the blooming daffodil fields were triggering allergies, I’m not so sure now. It’s always hard to imagine how yucky the little guy feels because his fire station is still humming right along & he is still dealing with tons of emergencies with his fire coat & hat on. However, this little fireman is down for the count right now (but on the mend). This is the first time that he has gotten sick since he has been so verbal & not in a crib. It’s been so helpful having him articulate what he needs & feels (we’ve had a pretty good run this winter). Last night he summed it up pretty well by telling me that, “this is no fun at all Mommy”. So, we are getting some good cuddle time in, working on making an elevator for his fire station, & taking it easy today. Hopefully the fire station will be running at full speed tomorrow.
Hope you’re having a good Tuesday!
