{Cardboard} Wash Your Car!!

You know how we love cardboard in our house, so when I see project pins on pinterest involving cardboard- I pin them.  I came across this pin a few months ago & I logged it in my mind for a rainy day. When Sayer asked me this weekend if we could make a carwash for his cars – I knew just were to find some inspiration. I’m really not one to read directions for projects – or anything if I can help it.  It makes Ikea & Playmobile purchases extra interesting. After looking at the picture on Pinterest, we just started making things up as we went along. This is our version of what I later found out, was a project on this blog. We now have a house full of clean matchbox cars. Word has spread & now there are lines waiting to use this carwash –  it apparently cleans vintage Fisher Price people just as well.

It’s Wednesday- do you need to wash your car?
Hope you are having a nice week. What are you working on these days?

{Inspiration} Caine’s Arcade…

By now you probably know that my husband makes a lot of cool stuff with cardboard. This last weekend he had a booth (representing a local gallery) at an arts festival where he made a house out of pieces of cardboard in 2 days (I’ll get into that more later). During this presentation, he was able to chat with many interesting people & one of them recommended that he see a short film called, “Caine’s Arcade”.  After he watched it, he immediately shared it with Sayer & I. Of course, I was taken with Caine – the 9 year old that made an arcade out of cardboard. So much so, I had to share his film in case you hadn’t heard his story yet. The short film is about 10 minutes long & it’s sure to inspire – check it out….

This was just what I needed to see this week. What a nice reminder of the power of creativity & human kindness.  Hope you are having a great week!

{Everyday Inspriation} Just a Saturday Night…

Our Saturday nights really haven’t changed that much since our grad school days – after Sayer goes to bed anyway. Which is pretty cool really. We usually work in our perspective studios & meet up every now & then – throughout the night. It’s particularly fun when we have deadlines or creative projects in the works. There is an energy that I really enjoy. Chris has had some shows & extra projects that he has been working on lately & had a vision that he need help executing last night. What I love, is that I was able to completely understand what his vision was. I took these photos of him in his studio last night… or hmmm, this morning I should say. His pieces that he is surrounded by are both made with clay with a technique called sgraffito & cardboard with b&w gesso. All & all – it was a pretty fun  & producive Saturday night. Hope you are having a great weekend!

{Everyday Inspiration} Kiel Johnson cardboard love…

Holy Moly- aren’t these unbelievable cardboard creations? A friend told me about this post over at Odette Manon & it blew me away (thanks again D!). Then I checked out Kiel Johnson’s website & was hit over the head with his brilliance. I highly recommend taking some time to cruise through it – this post barely scratches the surface of his projects. I particularly love his videos by Theo Jemison too!
Hope you are having (or had) a wonderful weekend. Did you make anything cool?

{Everyday Inspiration} I love paper…

It’s been a year since Cardboard Man was officially born. The wonderful, cardboard Halloween costume that my husband came up with last year really became his hutch studio uniform & Cardboard Man is really who he becomes in the studio. This treasury is all about my love of all things made with paper & dedicated to Chris on this weekend before Halloween. Hope you are enjoying spooky festivities & making cool things with paper this weekend!

{Everyday Inspiration} Paper attire for a dream date…

Ever since Cardboard Man’s existence, I’ve been dreaming about what sort of outfit I could wear for a night out on the town with him. When I saw the work of Jum Nakao {via here}, my question was answered…

Incredible! Isn’t the end nuts- can you imagine? Ah, the drama…
Now the only thing left to wonder about is where should I take Cardboard Man in our paper attire (& would the end of our date be similar)? Hmmm…. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

{Music Monday} 2011

Music makes our family go ’round. That’s how we all ushered in 2011 while bidding farewell to 2010. On this Music Monday I’m keeping it short & sweet. I’m still in a little holiday recovery mode & our whole family is slowly catching up on sleep around here. So I thought I would share a little Science of Sleep…

I remember going completely bonkers over this movie the first time I saw it. Visually, it completely made me happy. I haven’t seen it in a long time & think we should revisit it soon. I think we would see it in a whole new light. I’ve always liked this Lou Reed song as well.

In the meantime, I’m going to unplug & continue to recharge my batteries….Happy Music Monday in 2011!   {image via Chris Theiss}
