{Photos} Summertime Fair…

One of my favorite things about summertime, is the county fair. It’s so fun to see everything through Sayer’s eyes & the camera lens. This year Sayer was much more confident and a little more mellow- as if he was taking everything in to enjoy later. Last year he rode the same rides by himself- so it all was old hat.  As much as I adore the colors of the fair, my favorite photos from the day are in black & white.

But wait… I did catch some color with iphone. Have I told you how much I love instagram & phone apps?

While it’s September already, I’m still going to enjoy this last bit of summer. Sayer doesn’t go back to pre-school until next week & the weather is beautiful right now. We have a few more family adventures ahead & I’m holding on to summer tight…

How about you?

{Music Monday} easy breezy summertime…

It was actually a bit on the hot side here this weekend. Saturday was not the kind of day to be sewing wool plush in the attic studio of an old house. So Sayer & I headed out for a beach break to enjoy the small breeze, saltwater air, and sand, & seaweed between our toes. It was a really one of my favorite kinds of days.

It wouldn’t be Music Monday unless I shared an appropriate soundtrack for this summer feeling. You may remember the Zee Avi post I did last month – well you can check out her new album stream  here – it all feels like summer to me. Have a listen & see what you think.  Zee Avi’s Ghostbird, will be released this Tuesday. This first video from the album seems like a nice way to start the week. Sort of hard to not get up & dance, isn’t it?  Happy Music Monday!

{Everyday Inspiration} colors of the fair part II…

I’m a true sucker for the colors & images of a fair. I went a bit bonky with the camera at the fair Friday night & clicked away about 350 times. I always try to capture the colors & laughter as if to bottle it up & save if for a rainy day. Last night I posted the photos that the showed the true joy that the roller coaster discovery brought Sayer’s way. Now it’s time to share some of the colors of the fair…

What a fun night! Not only did Sayer enjoy riding the roller coaster by himself, but he rode the airplanes a number of times by himself too! I wonder what will be his favorite ride next year? I’m afraid it may be that green Galaxy 3000 ride. It caught his eye many times. Barf-o-rama….
Hope you are having a great week so far!

{Music Monday} feels like summer….

It finally feels like summer. The sprinkler was on, backyard giggles were heard & afternoon picnics of popsicles in Sayer’s clubhouse were enjoyed. Sunday was nice. The new  Zee Avi song, Swell Window, seems to fit my mood (& these pictures) – look forward to hearing her new album in August.  Happy Music Monday! How was your weekend?

{Everyday Inspiration} colors of the fair…

A few weeks ago, I posted my favorite b&w picture that Chris took of Sayer and I at the local fair. I love how timeless the b&w made our outing look- and how dramatic the shadows became. But being that I am a big fan of color, I wanted to document how the night looked through my klt:color googles. I went through the photos that we took that evening and found little snippets of color, texture, and shape inspiration.
The fair also has tons of cool signage & typography to look at which I am continuously drawn to. I think it is pretty fascinating (and somewhat scary too) how these rides and little buildings travel and can pop up in almost any setting to create some instant magic. Too bad I couldn’t capture the smells in this post.

Sayer’s favorite ride was the Jalopy cars which seemed to go around & around & around, endlessly. We each had our turn with him on that ride, but when he rode with Chris, he got to drive the very first car. I thought this picture that I took of them (after the 20th time around) was really funny.

Sayer and I enjoyed the carousel together- that was “our” ride. This one went a little faster then the one we rode in Seattle earlier in the month. He wanted to be independent but didn’t really want me to move too far away because it was a tiny bit “scary”. One of the things that I like about this picture is the quiet and thoughtful quality to it. I like the fact that the trees were in the background rather then a parking lot. There is a continuous thread of green in these last two photos that I love as well. Sayer and I tend to gravitate towards green. He picked out that horse – and it was the one I had my eye on too. So there you have it- some summer fair inspiration in a nutshell. Now I am going to tuck those snippets in my sketchbook for a rainy day…
