{Beach Day} The Piping Plover…

I can never get enough of the beach. I go often to one that is not far from my house. It’s a beach that I used to visit in high school to clear my mind – no matter what the season- & it still mellows me right out.  So, when I have a new klt:works tee to photograph (particularly a beachy one) it’s my “go to” spot with my guys/models. Here are a few of my favorite shots from a fun day of shooting the new Piping Plover tees.

Sayer told me that he was “relaxing” in this photo.  We were all salty & tuckered – a day well spent. Do you live near a beach? Where is your favorite “go to” spot in the summer?

{Inspiration} a tiny ferry ride & studio visit…

Recently, during an opening at hutch studio, I had the opportunity to meet a pretty fantastic woman named Sue Roberts. She was patiently waiting to ask me questions during a thread drawing demo & introduced herself- right before she had to dash off to catch a teeny ferry to Guemes Island. It wasn’t too long after she left, that I actually realized that I was a fan of her sculptures & had seen some of her work in many galleries over the years. Since then, both Chris & I have had the chance to hang out with her a bit. She is a ceramicist/sculptor as well as Chris so their paths have been crossing often lately.
Chris’ dad is visiting from Rhode Island right now & we are always looking for a cool things to do when he is here & Sue had just happened to invite us over for a studio visit – which was perfect timing!  We all hopped in the car, took a itty bitty ferry, & met Sue at her studio (Tower Arts Studio) for a tour.

She & Chris talked clay talk & I visually took in Sue’s world. My eyes immediately honed in on a medical model of the body on her top shelf & I pointed out to Sayer.  He, of course, went bonkers (as he is still obsessed with the body) – she was so great & let him play with it! He and Grandpa Whitebeard (what Sayer calls Chris’ dad) worked on that body for a really long time- the parts are much easier to take out than put back in apparently. I then had a chance to just walk around & check out all of the sites…

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we all had a wonderful time yesterday! After our studio tour, Sue took us on a site seeing adventure of the island including a frolic on the beach – all after serving us handmade chocolates (she has a little chocolate business too!) & coffee. She is one talented & fun gal! Thanks Sue- Sayer is still talking about the medical body (I think he even dreamed about it)!

Hope you have a fun weekend with lots of cool adventures. Any plans?

{La Petite Magazine} Issue #7 …

The new La Petite Magazine (issue #7) just came out – just in time to cozy up this weekend & browse through the pages of dreamy, beachy goodness. What a perfect issue to get lost in as the wind blows & rain pours outside my window. It’s a nice reminder that Spring just might in fact be around the corner.
My, “For the Love of Books” article is on pages 148-50 & it’s full of both nostalgic favorites & new book discoveries. I’m such a sucker for the water & the beach so this issue was extra fun to contribute too. So head on over to La Petite Magazine to be inspired & transported- there are so many wonderful contributions & features! You may even smell salt water in the air as you read…

{Everyday Inspiration} camera in hand…

Late last week, Sayer asked me if we could go on a picnic at the beach after I picked him up from pre-school. The weather has been typical for fall in the NW- chilly, rainy, & a little dreary. However, this particular day it was sunny with a nice crispness in the air . The beach he was referring to is one that I used to go to when I was in high school – just to chill out & quiet my mind. It was one of the first places I drove to when I got my drivers license- so he didn’t need to twist my arm for me to take him out there.

By the time we had packed our little picnic & got out to the beach, the sun was rapidly going down. The lighting & color was gorgeous- not to mention we had the whole beach to ourselves. If you haven’t noticed yet, I really love taking photos of Sayer – particularly at the beach. So, I was in heaven just snapping away while Sayer explored & threw rocks into the water. He even brought one of our vintage cameras from our collection that he likes to play with. It was just what we both needed. This place still has the power to calm me down & I’m glad that Sayer enjoys it as much as I do. On the way home, we chased the full moon taking back roads off the beaten path. I kept pulling over, trying to get a good photo. But I think the chase was better than the actual photos. It’s pretty amazing how my kiddo knows just how to make my day. Is there a special place that you like to go to chill out & unwind?

{Fun} long weekend…

I’m hoping to enjoy some time by the pool this weekend. Chris, Sayer & I all piled into the car with my mom & dad to drive over the mountains to a place called Lake Chelan today. It’s a place we visited every summer when I was a kid & we revisited this tradition when Sayer was born. We met my brother & sister-in-law late this afternoon & are ready to begin our long weekend (we are a week behind). I think I may even unplug a bit &…. relax. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! What are you up to?

{Music Monday} easy breezy summertime…

It was actually a bit on the hot side here this weekend. Saturday was not the kind of day to be sewing wool plush in the attic studio of an old house. So Sayer & I headed out for a beach break to enjoy the small breeze, saltwater air, and sand, & seaweed between our toes. It was a really one of my favorite kinds of days.

It wouldn’t be Music Monday unless I shared an appropriate soundtrack for this summer feeling. You may remember the Zee Avi post I did last month – well you can check out her new album stream  here – it all feels like summer to me. Have a listen & see what you think.  Zee Avi’s Ghostbird, will be released this Tuesday. This first video from the album seems like a nice way to start the week. Sort of hard to not get up & dance, isn’t it?  Happy Music Monday!

{Giveaway} Rainy Day….

It’s raining non-stop & I find I’m thinking of sunny days. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to go though old beach photos. I came across this sweet picture of Sayer on our trip to Boston 2 years ago. He’s wearing an owl tee that was printed on these funky Alternative Apparel tees that have the seams on the outside & rolled sleeves & bottom- a perfect summertime tee. I only printed a few & just found 2 in the studio – size 2T. So, it’s a rainy day giveaway here. I’m going to give away 1 on the blog & 1 on the KLT FB page. Are you interested? If you are, just leave a comment telling me what your favorite KLT product is & why. I’ll draw names tomorrow & post the winner.

Hope you are having nice weather where you are….
