{Inspiration} LaLa love…

“Curiosity is the main driving force in my life. I’m like a four-year-old. I look at things, at the world, at life, and ask, ‘Why?’ Curiosity is satisfied by learning, so the more you learn, the more curious you get. I’m happy to know there is no end to that.”

“I’ve been making things for as long as I can remember. It never occurred to me that other people didn’t do the same in their free time. ”
“Creativity and inspiration don’t come from idleness, but from continuous work.”

“I’m constantly inspired by the new things I learn, by everything I see, hear, and read, by new places I visit, by long discussions I have with my husband (who is an artist), and by the good work of my peers. Anything can make my brain tingle.”

Every now & then, I read or listen to an interview & I literally get goosebumps & wish  that I had a chance to meet that person being interviewed – convinced that we would become fast friends. This is definitely the case with the recent, “Featured Seller: Daria from La La Shoes”, interview that was published on Etsy last Monday. However, this time when reading about this cool & “true blue” woman… I didn’t wish that I knew her or wonder if we’d be friends. Instead, I beamed with happiness because I do know her & we are close friends. Daria is the real deal- funny, talented, hard working, & extremely intelligent. But what you may not know, is that she has the biggest heart in that tiny body of hers. She is the kindest & most supportive friend a person can have. I don’t know about you, but it makes a difference to me if I like someone’s work, what kind of a person they are. So much so, that I often don’t want to meet someone if I love their art or design- because if they are a jerk, it will affect how I view their work. I want to assure you that in this case… it’s all fantastic – the work & the person.
This is such an informative, inspiring, & honest interview- I just wanted to share. Click here to learn why I adore Daria & LaLa Shoes.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

{Fabric Friday} I need some WaWa…

It’s so chilly & dark these days- there are rumblings of snow in the forecast. What I need today to give my sleepy self a jump start in the studio is some WaWa! I think if I had some cozy wool WaWa shoes on right now, I could seriously tackle any project with tons of enthusiasm. – No mountain would be too big, right? …Absolutely!
My very second Fabric Friday post ever, was about my love of working with colorful wool & a woman who shares that love & executes it brilliantly. It was back on the 2nd of April – check out that post here.  As it’s time to get out the wool again, it’s also time to revisit the vibrant LaLa Shoes Shop.

I have to tell you, that post means a lot to me. It opened the door to a wonderful friendship that I hold really dear. Daria, the creator & maker of LaLa Shoes is a daily inspiration & tremendous support to me…. my ideal studio mate & top notch pal. She makes all of her shoes with such care and her attention to detail is impeccable. She makes wool shoes for babies & toddlers, & lovely, linen home shoes for women as well.  There  is no telling what she will create next, so keep an eye on her shop, you will be glad you did. Hope the little WaWa helped take the chill out of the air for you- it helped me. Happy Fabric Friday!

Fabric Friday

It is a blustery and chilly day, so all fingers pointed to brightly colored wools and wool felts for Fabric Friday. I use various combinations of wool felts for my plush & mobiles at klt:works. The clean lines, rich colors and wonderful textures are what call to me, plus it is tremendously easy to work with. Because of this love of wools and wool felts, I am keenly aware of designers that are working with this fabric in stunning ways.

Oh, La La shoes is just that… stunning! Daria is the designer/owner/maker of La La shoes. She has a varied background that keeps her creations really interesting, including: industrial designer, art director, set designer, children’s art educator.. and the list just keeps on going. You can see the influence of all of these skills in her work. It is flawless, ergonomic, fun, and the design is clean and modern.

Daria has chosen to work with fabrics that are natural and tactile, she puts a great deal of thought and attention to detail in each pair of shoes that she makes. Just looking at these shoes, makes me smile. The colors are vibrant and she does the wool proud! Unfortunately, I found her too late to get a pair of her wool baby shoes for Sayer (as he has outgrown the sizing because he is a full on little boy now). But she does have some pretty darn cute mini shoe keychains that are calling my name. Yep, La La Shoes is yet another one of my great Twitter / Facebook/ Flickr finds.
Well, I am feeling cheerful, warm, and inspired now, are you? Happy Fabric Friday!
