Sayer & I are hoping to relax a bit & maybe read a good book on this holiday Monday (ok- so maybe that is my hope- & it will be after playing fire station of course). It’s a yellow sort of day… sunny, happy, & full of promise. Happy Music Monday! How are you spending your holiday?
{SALE} Back to School…
Sayer’s packet of pre-school information just arrived today. It’s full of his curriculum for the month, a homework project, the schedule for when he needs to bring a snack for his classmates, & the parent’s handbook. Wow- it’s all so official- where did the time go? I’m filled with all sorts of anxiety & excitement for this leap into the world of school. Thankfully he is really excited- we have taken bike rides by his school many times this summer along with peering into the windows & chatting about school time scenarios. In one of our snooping adventures, he spotted some fire hats & trucks in one of the windows so he’s convinced he will love school.
In celebration of Sayer & his first day of school & for kids everywhere who are going back to school, klt:works is having a sale! Just enter {KLTFALL11} at checkout at the klt:works etsy shop & receive 25% off anything until midnight Monday (PST). Hope everyone has a great long weekend & start to the new school year!
{Fabric Friday} Sweet Nostalgia…
As you may know, I’ve been stashing away fabrics for quite awhile. Sometimes, I don’t know why I’m drawn to a pattern but I feel a strong attachment to it & get a little bit to save for the right occasion. I decided to put together a few bundles of fabrics for hutch studio the other day that consisted mostly of vintage reprints but that are all really hard to find now. I think I started stashing most of these when I was thinking about being a mom someday.
These fabrics are sweet, nostalgic, & perfect for baby quilt or any other fun project for your child. There are 2 bundles available here. Happy Fabric Friday! Do you have any fun & creative projects planned for the long weekend?
{Music Monday} easy breezy summertime…
It was actually a bit on the hot side here this weekend. Saturday was not the kind of day to be sewing wool plush in the attic studio of an old house. So Sayer & I headed out for a beach break to enjoy the small breeze, saltwater air, and sand, & seaweed between our toes. It was a really one of my favorite kinds of days.
It wouldn’t be Music Monday unless I shared an appropriate soundtrack for this summer feeling. You may remember the Zee Avi post I did last month – well you can check out her new album stream here – it all feels like summer to me. Have a listen & see what you think. Zee Avi’s Ghostbird, will be released this Tuesday. This first video from the album seems like a nice way to start the week. Sort of hard to not get up & dance, isn’t it? Happy Music Monday!
{Everyday Inspiration} colors of the fair part II…
I’m a true sucker for the colors & images of a fair. I went a bit bonky with the camera at the fair Friday night & clicked away about 350 times. I always try to capture the colors & laughter as if to bottle it up & save if for a rainy day. Last night I posted the photos that the showed the true joy that the roller coaster discovery brought Sayer’s way. Now it’s time to share some of the colors of the fair…
What a fun night! Not only did Sayer enjoy riding the roller coaster by himself, but he rode the airplanes a number of times by himself too! I wonder what will be his favorite ride next year? I’m afraid it may be that green Galaxy 3000 ride. It caught his eye many times. Barf-o-rama….
Hope you are having a great week so far!
{Music Monday} the national & a sock puppet…
I’ve been a fan of the band, The National, for some time now & was really excited to see the cool video that they chose as the winner of their Portal 2 Video Contest. They had 320 videos to chose from & apparently it was a such a tough choice that they had a 1.00000000001st winner as well that you can view here – along with other submissions. My favorite is this one with out a doubt though. I’m a sucker for sock puppets & gorgeous scenery. What’s your favorite?
Happy Music Monday!
{Fun Finds} little girls…
I’ve been spending a great deal of time on Etsy lately & got a bit distracted last night as I was uploading things into the shop. It was really hutch studio’s sweet room & The Measure’s adorable petticoat that got me started on this vintage inspired, girly treasury. It was a much needed break to think about who the little girl would be, that would occupy a room like that- in her sweet petticoat & boots. Hope you had a nice weekend!
You can view the “little girls” treasury live here.
{Real Life} hutch at home…
Last week, Chris made our family our first whirligig & put it up in our backyard. To me, this was somewhat symbolic of the news that we had received the weekend prior. I had mentioned in the last post that I was a bit distracted lately. Well that can all be sort of tracked back to whirligigs. Why you ask? Let me explain- I’ll give you the short version.
Two weekends ago, we learned that hutch studio (the studio & shop that my husband designs for & runs – home of the whirligigs) can no longer keep it’s doors open on a daily basis. Chris is going to still be working for the same company, but just in a different capacity now. While it’s really sad news because of how special hutch studio & it’s loyal customers are- Chris & I are going to do the best we can to maintain hutch studio’s online presence including a shop, continuing whirligig workshops, special events, & being open by appointment – with hopes of eventually working out a way to be open a few days a week until Fall.
So, in the last week, we have been adjusting to our new schedule, brainstorming, & creating a new etsy shop for hutch. It has been a bit overwhelming at times, but I’m excited about the new possibilities. The hutch studio shop will continue to have the “Make- It Yourself Kits” that Chris designed & that have become hutch best sellers, along with special vintage finds (including books & toys), fabric bundles, one of a kind art, & a scatter of klt:works items as well.
One day at a time is my motto lately. I know I have written about hutch studio a lot in the past, but there might be a few more blog posts about it in the future given my new involvement. Stay tuned… it’s bound to be an intersting ride. Our whirligig is spinning in our backyard as a symbol of the new hutch studio headquarters.
Here’s how to keep up with the hutch studio progress if you are interested:
etsy shop (cool things are being added everyday)
Thanks to all of you that have been so amazingly supportive & kind over the last few weeks (well always really). Your support is very appreciated!
In a nutshell, this is what has been occupying my brain – along the side of trying to figure out the mysteries of toddlerhood & new products for klt:works…
How has your week been?
{Everyday Inspiration} Thirtyfive Flowers…
It’s no secret that I have a love of fabrics & have a particular fondness in the history of iconic textile designers. So does Louise who makes cushions out of vintage & new fabrics for her shop called Thirtyfive Flowers. I’ve purchase four cushion covers from her in the last few months & felt that deserved a mention here. We have them scattered throughout our home- I love them! Here is how we live with Thirtyfive Flowers….
My latest purchase from Louise made me a little giddy. They were cushions made with the Marion Mahler “Mobiles” vintage fabric & one made with the Lucienne Day “Perfecta” vintage fabric (the end two in this last photo). I felt it was necessary to own fabrics from these two British, Mid-Century designers & was thrilled to receive these cushion covers in the mail. So if you love vintage & gorgeous new fabrics, check out Thrityfive Flowers – you are bound to find a treasure…
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! We are off to an arts festival in a nearby town. What did you do?
{Everyday Inspiration} Electric Circus…
I saw this first video about the collaboration between inventor Fred Abels & puppeteer Mirjam Langemeijer called the Electric Circus, when visiting the handmaderomance blog. Like Evie, I’ve watched this over & over & wanted to share it. Since then, I’ve looked up this creative duo’s website & stumbled on this quick, second video along with all of these photos. The Electric Circus inspires me to no end – hope that you like it too! This is just what I needed to watch to help me get to Friday. How about you?
