{Music Monday} Angus & Julia Stone…

I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m sometimes drawn into a song or a musician by their videos. This would be one of those situations. I’m loving these Angus & Julia Stone videos! Sayer can’t get enough of the first one- he particularly enjoys the little elephant that is walking on the guitar. Happy Music Monday

{Shop Update} sweaters = slugs…

The fact that I’m posting about sweaters & slugs a day after posting about the sun & sprinklers is really just an example of a week in the Northwest. It’s been raining for the last two days – after a gorgeous weekend. The slugs are feasting on everything that we planted in our garden & the snails have been greeting us daily underfoot. However, because we have been inside a lot this summer, we’ve been on a cleaning, purging, & reorganizing kick- which brings me to my sweater drawer. I find that I hold on to a lot of sweaters more because I like the color, texture, or pattern more than that they really fit me well. So, to soften the blow of having to get  rid of them- in between working on orders, I decided to make some cozy slugs  that won’t munch on our tomatoes & basil…

It really is a fun way to pass on some of my favorite sweaters. The bodies are even softer than when I use polar tec fleece. Besides, I have a blast coming up with combinations & personalities. I hope you enjoy my sweaters as much as I did…

Now in the shop:

{Photos} hanging out in kiddo’s room…

We’ve been hanging out in Sayer’s room a lot lately. I love to watch him play & tend to reach for the camera when he isn’t looking. It seems like his room is always changing to respond to how fast he’s growing & changing. I’ve got an ongoing documentation of the morphing of his space on flickr & added a bunch of new pictures this weekend. We’ve replaced a table & chairs with a vintage school desk & chair (from a local salvage yard)- the table is now in the living room.  We have some new prints that Sayer helped pick out (by Blanca Gomez & Jayme McGown) & some new vintage finds- a Fisher Price school house & village (including a post office & fire station) – both from the late 60’s early 70’s. Well, I’m excited to say that my snapping of the camera & obsessive room documentation was was shared on Ohdeedoh yesterday! I guess it’s a good thing that we’ve had so many inside/rainy play days lately because I was ready to pass on new photos when asked.
Thanks to Sarah Rae Trover for writing a such a sweet post & to the kind people that left comments. You can view the rest of the room tour here.   Wow, this week is shaping up quite nicely! How is your week going?

{Everyday Inspiration} and so I whisper…

The blogosphere is a pretty fantastic place. It’s truly wonderful the friendships that form &  connections that are made through blogging. One can play the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon game with people you meet on the web. Which brings me to Anabel Fournier & her blog, and so I whisper. I first learned about Anabel & her company “Fournier” through my friend Chantale (who I also met via blogging). I found & bought the necklace above & started following Anabel’s blog because of Chantales high praise.

There is this great series on And So I Whisper,  called “Where I get Creative”. Anabel interviews all sorts of creative & inspiring ladies including Florence Rolando & my friend Chantale. Reading about other creatives & their work space inspires me & I love the idea of this series. I was really honored to have been asked to contribute as well.
Here’s a little peek of my interview that was posted yesterday. You can read the whole post plus get a little studio tour here

Thanks for including me in your series Anabel! I look forward to reading more “Where I Get Creative” interviews along with previewing your gorgeous products (& photos) on your blog.

{shop update} tees & prints…

Pheewww- what a week! New things are still flowing into the shop & I’m a wearing my shutterbug hat again. I would like to be reading my UPPERCASE Magazine under a tree right now, but I will let Katie enjoy it. However, that will be a goal of mine for the weekend. For today’s shop updates I have some Rabbit tees for adults to share with you in pink & grey. The woman’s scoop  neck Rabbit tee is so soft & Alternative Apparel donated 10% of my purchase of these pink tees to the Susan B Komen foundation for breast cancer research- which made my color choice simple. The unisex eco Rabbit tee is also really cozy – both are perfect weekend tees I think. Why yes, Cardboard Man wears it well doesn’t he?

I’m also excited about 3 new letterpress prints that Amy Redmond just finished printing for me. You can read the post I wrote about her & the letterpress process here. I added a hedgehog, rabbit, & fox to the mix of ever growing thread drawn characters.

Back to the studio for me… but I hope everyone has a great weekend!  What are your plans?

{Using random.org, the winner of the funky owl toddler tee is #1 Shannon. Thanks for the comments & feedback everyone.}

{Giveaway} Rainy Day….

It’s raining non-stop & I find I’m thinking of sunny days. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to go though old beach photos. I came across this sweet picture of Sayer on our trip to Boston 2 years ago. He’s wearing an owl tee that was printed on these funky Alternative Apparel tees that have the seams on the outside & rolled sleeves & bottom- a perfect summertime tee. I only printed a few & just found 2 in the studio – size 2T. So, it’s a rainy day giveaway here. I’m going to give away 1 on the blog & 1 on the KLT FB page. Are you interested? If you are, just leave a comment telling me what your favorite KLT product is & why. I’ll draw names tomorrow & post the winner.

Hope you are having nice weather where you are….

{photos} a day at the beach…

I love the beach. It’s always been a place that I gravitate to. No matter where I’ve lived, I’ve found where the nearest river, lake, or ocean, quickly. Romping around in the seaweed, sand & water calms me right down. Yesterday the three of us headed to a nearby beach to revel in it’s goodness. Why are my guys dressed the same you ask yourself? Do we always go places dressed alike? Well, I admit, this was one of my multitasking ventures. I’m in the middle of a flurry of new klt:products & needed photos of the new adult sized owl cardigan. I thought I would get some updated photos of the kiddo cardi too. So, I brought the camera with me on our adventure- hoping to capture a little something special. It was a bit overcast so the cardigans were perfect for the beach. Oh, & we don’t always dress the same, but we do find on occasion that we are all wearing an owl tee (just different colors).
Beach photos are some of my favorites & add these two guys to the mix, it’s a recipe for me to go a bit nutty with the camera.  250+ photos later & I have some keepers that I think capture the day. It was just what we needed… & I felt lots of seaweed & sand in my toes. Where is your favorite place to escape to?

{Music Monday} drifting…

Nice & easy…. that’s how I hope today will be. I learned about Benjamin Francis Leftwich from Marie Bee’s Sunday Song series last week. I was lured in because of the photography of the video. It’s beautiful & dreamy (like Marie) & makes me feel calm… . Now maybe I can tackle some projects with ease. Or maybe I’ll just make a paper boat & float away for a bit. Happy Music Monday

{Fabric Friday} Mr Rabbit Rawlinson …

I have a stack of special fabrics in my studio- the stack is reserved for just the right project. A lot of the stack consists of the hand printed textiles that Helen Rawlinson makes. I’ve posted about her gorgeous designs before I know, but you can never get too much of a good thing. When I was thinking about making my Rabbit Plushies, I knew right away what fabrics I wanted to use on their backs… three of my saved Helen fabrics (lime spot, fuchsia ABC, & charcoal pebble).

I’m really drawn to the modern, vibrant, & clean aesthetic of Helen’s work. As to not reinvent the wheel, I’m going to give you links to the other posts I’ve written about her designs too. I’ve been a fan for quite awhile now.

I love to work with handprinted fabrics particularly when I have a face to the name . So, these little Rabbits were extra fun to make- it’s like they really did magically pop out of Cardboard Man’s hat. Happy Fabric Friday! Have a great weekend! Do you have anything fun planned?

{shop update} photoshoots & play…

It’s been really busy around here lately & I’ve been attached to my camera. I work with a local screen printer & have had about 5 orders sitting at his studio for over a month now – to say he has been overwhelmed is a bit of an understatement (I’ve had to count to 10 -sometimes 20 many times this last month). However, new products have been slowly trickling in this week & I’ve been going full speed ahead. With new products comes many photoshoots & the need to be extra creative as to how I’m going to photograph my independent little kiddo- who has his own ideas about what the day will bring. I’ve been getting him excited about the new additions to his closet & taking the camera with us everywhere we go, in hopes of getting some interesting shots. One of Sayer’s favorite things to say to me on days like this is, “Mommy, look at me with your eyes- put the camera away!”.

Yesterday we started our adventure at the local farmer’s market on the water front & cruised around that area for a bit- including looking for trolls under bridges & hanging out in the wind tunnels (alleys). Sayer was wearing the new klt:works Rabbit tee & it wasn’t until I saw this last photo that I realized that the small klt:logo was missing on the back of the tee (where the tag is) -use your imagination as to what choice words came to mind. Ok, I won’t dwell on that- moving on. So later after a snack & a rest, Sayer was a champ & allowed me to take some photos of him in studio reading the Velveteen Rabbit.

These next photos were taken on the evening Sayer got his first pair of glasses. I wanted document that momentous event anyway … so I had him wear one of the new Squirrel Cardigans.

We live a hop skip & a jump from my old high school (yes, it does feel a little weird at times) & now that school is out for the summer, we use the campus as our own little play area. Sayer loves to ride his bike over there & play “school”. There are random desks & chairs hanging around outside & Chris & I take turns being the “teacher”.  He basically drove himself to & from the photoshoot which makes me smile- he’s such a pro.
Just a day in the life of the klt:works family… Stay tuned for more shop updates. There is so much more to share.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend! How do you celebrate the 4th of July or Canada Day?
