{Everyday Inspiration} comfort palette…

I absolutely love color.  But I do find that there are colors that I gravitate towards more often than others. My paintbox, closet, & house are full of greens & blues. They seem to be my comfort colors. Maybe it’s because my eyes are a combination of the two. I created another Etsy treasury of colors & images that feel comforting & happy to me.

You can view this Etsy Treasury live here. What are your comfort colors?

A forest of trees…

I’ve been going to the same tree farm with my family to find a Christmas tree since about 1983. Before that, we got them from our neighbor who had great “tree connections”. I don’t think I missed an outing- I may have grumbled about it- but I think I always went. Even when I was in college- I would come home for Christmas and go out with them. Everything is pretty much the same every year and we still all have our individual style of searching for a tree. For those of you that have never visited a tree farm for a tree… I thought I would show you how we do it.

Ever since Chris & I have been together, we would hop in the car with my mom and dad to go search out our tree. Sayer has been a part of this tradition since he was a baby. But this year he was really enjoying romping around & searching for our tree. He just ran around, playing fireman- putting out forest fires left & right. I loved seeing how involved in the process he was- right down finding the string to tie the trees to the car. This year we took our own car and followed my parents. So, this is our view after the tree adventure. I felt that this tradition was worthy of documentation because it really is something I look forward to at Christmas time.  What is your favorite holiday tradition?

{Everyday Inspiration} Close to my heart…

The minute I became a mom, I was on the lookout for a special locket. For some reason, finding one hasn’t been easy. It had to be the right combination of unique & artistic – simple & nostalgic. Oh, and in my budget.  I’ve been really patient because I knew I would find the right one.

Thankfully, I stumbled on The Blue Balloon Etsy Shop. I knew when I saw Marie’s work (& read her “about me” section) that I didn’t need to look any further for my locket. She has so many beautiful lockets to choose from that it literally took me a month to narrow down my favorites. She is also a photographer and uses her own images for her jewelry and other shop treasures. It was when I saw the Cold Water vintage locket,  that I finally made my choice. I was immediately drawn to the water. Working with Marie made my new locket even more special. I sent her one of my favorite pictures to use on the inside. I chose one of Chris & Sayer in the water that I took on our trip to Cap Cod two summers ago. It was our first east coast trip with Sayer  to visit Chris’ side of the family.

Here it is – the inside of my new locket!  I just got it in the mail yesterday and it’s just beautiful! The whole process was really enjoyable and I’m so glad I waited for the perfect fit. If you are looking for a special & unique gift this holiday season (or something special for yourself) you should really check out the The Blue Balloon. It’s handmade, vintage goodness…
Thanks Marie- I just love this sweet necklace!

{Music Monday} Autumn harvest…

The Autumn months are here now and it’s time to break out the Neil Young Harvest Moon cd. I don’t just listen to this album in the Fall, but it just seems to compliment the season well. We actually have two copies of it because Chris & both had one when we met. It’s the ultimate art studio music and has been a favorite for years. Neil has a new release out now along with a mini movie about the making of his album- both collaborations with the great Daniel Lanois. Neil is a true classic and continues to put his heart & soul into everything he does which is why so many people love not only his music, but him as well. Happy Music Monday
