I love what I do- plain & simple. I have met the most interesting & talented people through klt:works. Case in point, look at these wonderful photos by Bellini Portraits! Kristin Fluhr, the Boston based clothing designer & creator of The Measure, contacted me a little while ago about an idea that she had. Well, I love the opportunity to collaborate with like minded artists & designers (particularly ones with great names like Kristin) so I jumped. Kristin’s Twelfth Night Collection for The Measure was just photographed by Bellini Portraits and will be available for purchase next Tuesday. I’m so thrilled have my tees be a part of these awesome outfits! They will also be available for purchase as part of the whole ensemble. This little model is just adorable too- can you imagine she & Sayer playing in their Squirrel & Kitty tees together? This is just a taste of the Twelfth Night Collection. It’s been really busy around here lately & I’ve been attached to my camera. I work with a local screen printer & have had about 5 orders sitting at his studio for over a month now – to say he has been overwhelmed is a bit of an understatement (I’ve had to count to 10 -sometimes 20 many times this last month). However, new products have been slowly trickling in this week & I’ve been going full speed ahead. With new products comes many photoshoots & the need to be extra creative as to how I’m going to photograph my independent little kiddo- who has his own ideas about what the day will bring. I’ve been getting him excited about the new additions to his closet & taking the camera with us everywhere we go, in hopes of getting some interesting shots. One of Sayer’s favorite things to say to me on days like this is, “Mommy, look at me with your eyes- put the camera away!”.

Yesterday we started our adventure at the local farmer’s market on the water front & cruised around that area for a bit- including looking for trolls under bridges & hanging out in the wind tunnels (alleys). Sayer was wearing the new klt:works Rabbit tee & it wasn’t until I saw this last photo that I realized that the small klt:logo was missing on the back of the tee (where the tag is) -use your imagination as to what choice words came to mind. Ok, I won’t dwell on that- moving on. So later after a snack & a rest, Sayer was a champ & allowed me to take some photos of him in studio reading the Velveteen Rabbit.

These next photos were taken on the evening Sayer got his first pair of glasses. I wanted document that momentous event anyway … so I had him wear one of the new Squirrel Cardigans.

We live a hop skip & a jump from my old high school (yes, it does feel a little weird at times) & now that school is out for the summer, we use the campus as our own little play area. Sayer loves to ride his bike over there & play “school”. There are random desks & chairs hanging around outside & Chris & I take turns being the “teacher”. He basically drove himself to & from the photoshoot which makes me smile- he’s such a pro.

{Giveaway} KLT from Sayer’s Closet…

As you might guess, Sayer’s closet is always full of klt:works tees. When he out grows a klt:tee, it’s replaced with another one in a new size. It’s a sweet deal actually. He might think that the owl tee will follow him forever – he’s worn that image in some form since he was born (it’s still his favorite). Sayer is going through another growth spurt & I just recently cleaned out his closet & replaced tees with the next size up – & yesterday, I was going through my “oops” tees (tees with ink or small flaws in fabric) to send to courtneycourtney & gave a few away on the KLT:FB page. Because of the response & for the sake of recycling, I had an idea. I always give Sayer’s klt:stuff away when he outgrows it anyway- so I thought I would do a tee bundle giveaway here on the blog.

{Bundle One} For the Owl lover ~ All three are 2T but all different in the way that they fit. L/S is American Apparel & fits smallish, Orange is Alternative Apparel – organic & fits generously, Charcoal is Alternative Apparel Eco & is a little smaller than the organic style. Sayer can actually get into the Alternative Apparel 2T but it’s snug.

{Bundle Two} Love for Kitty ~ All 3 are 2T & American Apparel. But different styles- middle organic is largest.

{Bundle Three} Love for Dogs ~ Both 2T but are Alternative Apparel – & run true to size. Sayer can still wear these but they are snug (he’s wearing the bulldog one in the picture).

These are all very loved & lived in tees but they have lots of wear & play left in them. If you are interested in having one of these bundles here are the rules.

{Studio Update} New Drawings in Thread…

I’ve been busy playing around with making some more drawings with thread lately. After many attempts, here are my newest three – a rabbit, fox, & hedgehog. Do you have a favorite? I think I do, but I’m curious about yours. I will be printing some more tees with one of these right away, & have plans to make more letterpress prints & plush as well. I would love your input. For those that don’t know what I mean by drawing with thread, here is a little video demo of my process. There isn’t a drawing underneath, or a computer program that does this for me. It is all chance & a regular sewing machine with a quilter’s foot. Sometimes the drawing juju is with me… & sometimes it isn’t. Needless to say, many end up in the garbage. One of the things that I find interesting about this process is that it uses both parts of my brain. The right side is creating the drawing & the left side is making sure I don’t run over my fingers with the needle.
